Countries and Series
finPack organizes CPI data by country and CPI series.
Select a country first, then select one of the CPI series available for that country.
Supported countries
The initial finPack CPI data service supports:
- Canada
- United States
Additional countries may be added in future releases.
Country codes
finPack worksheet functions identify countries using short country codes.
| Country | Code |
|---|---|
| Canada | ca |
| United States | us |
For example:
=FINPACK.CPI("ca","all-items",2026,9)
retrieves Canadian CPI data.
=FINPACK.CPI("us","all-items",2025,10)
retrieves U.S. CPI data.
Country codes are entered as text and should therefore be enclosed in quotation marks when entered directly in a formula.
CPI series
A CPI series identifies the CPI dataset you want to use.
For example:
all-items
identifies the All-Items CPI series.
The available series depend on the selected country.
In the finPack task pane:
- Select a Country.
- Open the CPI Series list.
- Select one of the available series.
finPack automatically loads the list of series supported for the selected country.
Series identifiers in worksheet functions
Worksheet functions use the finPack series identifier.
For example:
=FINPACK.CPI("ca","all-items",2026,9)
uses:
country = ca
series = all-items
The same identifiers are used by:
=FINPACK.CPIINCREASE("ca","all-items",2026,9)
and:
=FINPACK.CPIAVGCHANGE("ca","all-items",12,2026,9)
Series information
When you load CPI data in the task pane, finPack displays information about the selected series, including:
- Region and series.
- Latest available period.
- Latest CPI value.
- CPI Increase.
- Number of available observations.
- Data source.
This information helps confirm which CPI series is being used before you insert data or perform a calculation.
Historical availability
Historical availability can vary by CPI series.
A series may not contain observations for every historical period.
If a calculation requires an observation that is not available, finPack may be unable to return a result.
For example, FINPACK.CPIINCREASE requires both:
Selected month
and
Same month one year earlier
FINPACK.CPIAVGCHANGE requires every observation needed to construct both averaging periods.
Provider coverage and finPack coverage
The statistical providers may publish more CPI geographies, categories, or series than finPack currently exposes.
For example, Statistics Canada publishes CPI data for Canada and a range of regional geographies.
finPack exposes the countries and CPI series that are currently supported by the BPOpti CPI data service.
The list of available finPack series may expand over time.
Choosing a series
Use the series that matches the CPI measure required for your analysis.
Before using a series in an important workbook:
- Confirm the selected country.
- Confirm the CPI series.
- Review the source shown in the CPI Data preview.
- Review the available historical period if the calculation depends on older observations.
