Troubleshooting

Use this page when finPack is installed but a feature is not working as expected.

Start with the section that best matches the problem.

BPOpti Ribbon is not visible

When finPack is available in Excel, the Ribbon should include a BPOpti tab.

If the BPOpti tab is missing:

  1. Confirm that finPack is installed and available to Excel.
  2. Close Excel completely.
  3. Reopen Excel and check the Ribbon again.

If the BPOpti tab is still unavailable, review the finPack installation or contact BPOpti support.

Open finPack does not display the task pane

Select:

BPOpti → finPack → Open finPack

The finPack task pane should appear on the right side of Excel.

If the task pane does not open:

  1. Confirm that the BPOpti Ribbon is available.
  2. Close and reopen Excel.
  3. Select Open finPack again.
  4. Confirm that the computer has an internet connection.

If the problem continues, contact BPOpti support.

Countries do not load

When the finPack task pane opens, finPack loads the available CPI countries.

If the Country list is unavailable:

  1. Confirm that the computer has an internet connection.
  2. Review the status message at the bottom of the task pane.
  3. Use Diagnostics to test the BPOpti service.
  4. Try again after connectivity has been restored.

CPI Series is unavailable

The available CPI series depend on the selected country.

If the expected series does not appear:

  1. Confirm that the correct country is selected.
  2. Open the CPI Series list.
  3. Review the series currently available for that country.

The statistical provider may publish more CPI datasets than finPack currently exposes.

See Countries and Series for more information.

Load CPI Data does not return a series

If Load CPI Data cannot retrieve the selected series:

  1. Confirm that both a Country and CPI Series are selected.
  2. Confirm that the internet connection is working.
  3. Review the task-pane status message.
  4. Use Diagnostics to test the BPOpti service.
  5. Try loading the CPI data again.

CPI Value is unavailable

If Get CPI Value cannot return a result, confirm:

  1. The Country is selected.
  2. The CPI Series is selected.
  3. The Year is valid.
  4. The Month is correct.
  5. The requested period is within the available CPI history.

A valid request may still be unavailable if the selected series does not contain an observation for that period.

CPI Average Change cannot be calculated

CPI Average Change requires complete CPI observations for two consecutive periods of equal length.

Confirm:

  1. The period length is greater than 0.
  2. The ending year is valid.
  3. The ending month is between 1 and 12.
  4. The CPI series contains every observation required for both periods.

For example, a 12-month CPI Average Change requires 24 consecutive monthly observations.

If any required observation is unavailable, the calculation cannot be completed.

Insert Series into Excel does not work

Before selecting Insert Series into Excel:

  1. Select a Country.
  2. Select a CPI Series.
  3. Select Load CPI Data.
  4. Confirm that the series preview appears.
  5. Then select Insert Series into Excel.

finPack creates a new worksheet for each inserted CPI series.

Insert into Excel does not work

The CPI Value feature requires exactly one selected Excel cell when inserting a value.

Before selecting Insert into Excel:

  1. Retrieve the CPI value.
  2. Select one Excel cell.
  3. Select Insert into Excel.

If multiple cells are selected, select a single cell and try again.

FINPACK function returns #N/A

A result of:

#N/A

usually means finPack cannot return the requested CPI result.

Check:

  • Country code.
  • CPI series identifier.
  • Year.
  • Month.
  • Required historical observations.
  • Internet connection.

For FINPACK.CPIAVGCHANGE, also confirm that the requested period length is valid and that both averaging periods contain all required observations.

See Errors for additional information.

FINPACK function returns #NAME?

If Excel displays:

#NAME?

first verify the function name.

Valid finPack function names are:

FINPACK.CPI
FINPACK.CPIINCREASE
FINPACK.CPIAVGCHANGE

For example:

=FINPACK.CPI("ca","all-items",2026,9)

If the function name is correct but Excel still displays #NAME?, verify that finPack is installed and available in Excel.

FINPACK function remains #BUSY!

A finPack worksheet function may temporarily display:

#BUSY!

while Excel is waiting for the result.

If #BUSY! remains:

  1. Confirm that the internet connection is working.
  2. Open the finPack task pane.
  3. Use Diagnostics to test the BPOpti service.
  4. Recalculate the workbook after connectivity is confirmed.

Percentage result looks too small

FINPACK.CPIINCREASE and FINPACK.CPIAVGCHANGE return numeric ratios.

For example:

0.031

represents:

3.1%

Apply an Excel percentage number format to the cell.

Do not multiply the formula by 100 if the cell is also formatted as a percentage.

Estimated indicator is missing from a worksheet function

finPack worksheet functions return numeric values so that their results can participate in Excel calculations.

The functions do not append text such as:

(estimated)

or:

(includes estimated)

to worksheet results.

Use the finPack task pane or inserted CPI history when estimated-data status needs to be reviewed.

Diagnostics

The Diagnostics section of the task pane provides a simple test of the connection to the BPOpti service.

Use Diagnostics when:

  • Countries do not load.
  • CPI data cannot be retrieved.
  • Worksheet functions cannot retrieve results.
  • You suspect an internet or service-connectivity problem.

A successful diagnostic result confirms that the task pane can contact the BPOpti service.

Restart Excel

For unexpected add-in behavior, closing Excel completely and reopening the workbook is a reasonable early troubleshooting step.

If the problem continues after Excel is reopened, review the relevant section on this page and the task-pane status message.

Still having problems?

Before contacting support, note:

  • The finPack feature or worksheet function being used.
  • The selected country and CPI series.
  • The year and month, if applicable.
  • The exact Excel error or task-pane status message.
  • Whether Diagnostics succeeds.
  • Whether the internet connection is working.

This information will make the problem easier to diagnose.
